Aug '23What I've done in the past (not that I'm an expert in proof sessions, as I rarely do them) is I just straight up ask them. I would say something like "Hey I really love what you got going on. I would love to work on something with you. I can't produce a full song for you, as this is my full time job. However I'd love to do a writing session (or send loops, start an idea ect.) for free with you just to get something started."

I had a nice win a few days ago: A track placement for an up-and-coming Nigerian singer and it features quite a huge Nigerian rapper on it too (good for the catalogue). Not only that, I got paid my full rate for the production and kept 50% of my publishing. So good deal all round really! 🏆 When it came to the credit, on Spotify for instance it says produced by myself and the artist manager's name. Sep '23@Philip Davidson Agree here. It doesn't warrant a co-prod managers are expected to give feedback but rarely take credit. As long as its not eating into your fee structure or publishing then all is well imo

I haven’t experienced this working in afrobeats but then again I am working with an exec who’s being crediting on everything but he’s very much involved. Also, to Phil’s point, if he and the artist made that business arrangement then that’s what it is. But, again congrats.🇳🇬🍾

A few days ago I landed my highest paying client yet! $750 for a full track! I tried out the SSF call framework with them, which I didn't do amazing on... first time! But they still wanted to work together and I think that it is a great fit! Also recently finished a rough draft for a remix that I'm doing for a band and they loved it! It isn't a paid project but they have a small record label which the remix will be released on. I think it will give me some great opportunities to secure more royalties because they are super focussed on that!

Landed my first sales call via IG this morning; it's scheduled for tomorrow. Ultimately, I landed the call because the artist seems to have a slow moving trajectory for their next single release. So I asked what's holding them back from moving forward with more records...which was money. #wins just locked in a new client. Doing post production and a mix and master. Never done post-production for a client before so I am excited to do that for the first time. If all goes well he has other songs he wants me to fully produce. So potential for more work. A big selling point was that I'll be way faster then his other engineer who works at a label. He said his other engineer takes forever because this artist is not a priority. So I was able to use that on the sales call.

Been reaching out to just a couple of potential clients and received two deposits yesterday in just a couple of weeks of light outreach. Honestly, I thank the morning routine. As cheesy as it sounds even my wife has noticed a difference in me. My first proof session from doing outreach turned into a sales call. I was pretty excited and nervous about it but I just casually followed the framework and tried my best to figure out exactly what the artist really needed. The end result is my first sales call being a WIN, both of us are excited for the song and I’m getting paid a higher rate that feels right for the project. Very grateful for this group!
