Every week, members of the Dark Label Music community ship work, sign artists, and close deals. These are their stories — unfiltered, shared in their own words.
I just wanted to share that I am finally releasing content that I feel good about. @Chris Georgiou gave me great tips and ideas for thumbnails and content + @Daniel Grimmett has coached me through all my doubts around this. Grateful to be a part of the Dark Label community and excited to hear any feedback on my video I just released today. https://youtu.be/46dbUswLK9U?si=haKCm1LUCGzcBAK3 0:57
Nov '23 (edited)You're right...The first hurdle to get over is just posting in general. Nice job with that! However, the next hurdle is understanding what kind of content will work on YouTube. I recommend checking out the workshop I did a few weeks back and studying other channels. This particular video concept would work great as a short/tik tok/reel but not so much for a long-form YouTube video which is how it's uploaded currently. For long form, the title could have been... "Michael Brun "Jessica" But On A D... See more
Nov '23@Daniel Grimmett thank you for your advice and suggestions. I totally agree and will try to make these edits. I will check out the workshop. Thanks!!🙏
Nov '23@Charles Cleyn thank you! 🙏
Dec '23@James Littier thank you!! ❤️

Nov '23@Chris Georgiou much appreciated for all your assistance!
Nov '23@Stephen Levitin Huge congrats! excited t see how the content journey unfolds
In the last week I got my first two paying clients since starting Dark Label. One's for a remix and one's for mixing an EP—total revenue is just over $2,000. No money in the bank yet—I know it's not real until that happens!—but for me the true win is getting the point where I'm on calls with people and they're saying yes (with no objections so far!) so my sales pitches. A big part of this was overcoming confidence issues around asking my full fee; another big part was actually learning the skills... See more

Nov '23@Daniel Grimmett thanks!! me too
woehoew ... I just did my first SSF-call with a client that reached out to me! He checked my price in the summer (before I discovered DLM) and gave him my day-price (500). Back then I noticed a lot of hesitation because he mostly pays that amount for 1 song. Now I went through the DLM-steps and landed at 2000euro instead of 1500 (my price for the last 2 years) because I looped in an extra mixer and a lyricist because I think he needs them to reach his goals. He dreams big! With the questions, histor... See more
Nov '23Nice! 💪
Nov '23This is so encouraging man 🙌
Nov '23(Also - I will recategorize this post as “wins”)
Nov '23@Marcel Wildenauer thanks!
Nov '23Amazing, nice work! Love that bail strategy—can we include that in the curriculum somewhere? 😅 Love how you tailored the offer to the artist too, especially by getting the lyricist—I wouldn't have thought of that!
Nov '23There it is! Nice job @Joes Brands. A little structure to the sales process goes along away. Also, feel free to ask a client “hey give me a second here to look at my notes” if you need to buy time. I do that often.
Nov 'aha - good recovery Joes and well done on your first SSF 👏
Nov '23@Christian Sancto I wouldn't recommend that, but my mind blanked for a moment ... although I watched the video's about SSF calls 5 times, translated the frames and made them my own, went over them a few times. But hey - next time I'll fail a little better!I heard some of his demo's this summer, so I noticed his lyrics needed some love and the songs weren't there yet.
Nov '23So great to hear man!!! Nice work!
Nov '23Awesome man, great work!

Hey ya'll, I've been absent from the group for a while, sorting out my new life here in Mexico. (I've finally settled in the beautiful capital city of Guanajuato). But I had a cool win I wanted to share. Got a new placement in the KPOP world which was tons of fun to write and produce. Did this remotely with some excellent talent from across the globe. Enjoy! 3:20

Pretty big win and appreciation moment. I started working with an artist back in 2020, doing synth sound design and vocal post production. Fast forward to today, I’m sitting on a bus on tour in china running FOH for festival stages a size I could never imagine and coming back in December for China, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. Investing in long term relationship is the goal!
Oct '23That's wild! Safe travels @Jeremy Cornellier and a great lesson. Thanks for sharing!
Oct '23Yo that is sick bro congrats!!!!
Oct '23Damn man! That's killer. Way to stick with it. I've been finding the same thing in my own journey as well. Wild how it pays off to just stay along for the ride sometimes haha
Oct '23this is awesome dude - congrats!
I just had my first session back this morning with a client over zoom since I’ve been off with the baby and I was really good. Just thought I’d share. This is our first preproduction session and beforeThe break I gave her a bunch of homework to do, Recording voice demos of all the songs, write out all her lyrics, create a ref playlist, and write specific notes on each song in that playlist really taking deep into why she likes things. She said she was sceptical about doing the work but after she ... See more
Nov '23This is amazing! Cool to see it all out worked in a process that works and helps everyone be comfortable! This makes me really excited and it’s inspiring @Philip Davidson
Oct '23@Rowan Garmon yeah man more than welcome
Oct '23@Pete Covington yeah man. Works super well. I think the clarity and refinement of the clients vision is huge through this process. Then it just a matter of decoding that into your producer language.Another thing my wife said … by anchoring the sales process around the preproduction, and saying I am hear to create your vision and the most important thing for me to do is understand it, it puts the onus on them to figure out what it is. Basically I’m saying I will create what is inside your mind. A... See more
Oct '23Good stuff man! Hear you on the production homework - I've been getting artists to do similar stuff. I love how it gets them moving straight away when they pay their deposit - no waiting around for the first session and they're already getting value out of the project.
Oct '23@Philip Davidson this is so smart. This would've solved a lot for some past projects I've done 😅.
Oct '23@Jason Bradford yeah man. I anchor my whole sales pitch in it now. It’s great to actually see the idea actually coming together for the first time now.
Oct '23 (edited)@Rowan Garmon re: your onboarding post. Might be a good convo to have with Phil & Pete
Oct '23Big win, great to hear! The preproduction homework idea is smart - will definitely use this with artists going forward. Thank you for sharing.
Oct '23@Matt LeSueur thanks my guy
Oct '23I’m here for PhillyDee winsGreat seeing this, happy for you mane!
Oct '23@Jeremy Grondahl thanks bro. That’s great to hear. Trust the process, ask for help, turn up to streams. Client avatar and figuring out what I was actually selling was key, took a good three or four months to figure all that out though. Let us know how you get on and feel free to reach out if you need anything at all.
Oct '23That's incredible! Great idea on giving your client homework while you're out. I'm going through the intro videos and finished my client avatar the other day. It's great to see how it's paying off. Thanks for sharing, Philip!👏
Oct '23@Isaiah English yeah man. It’s great. Less work for you. More control for them. Greater clarity in vision on both sides.
Oct '23i love the preproduction homework, that's exactly how i want to do things once i hit the outreach part of the process. thanks for sharing mate
Nov '23@Harley Campbell awesome man. Very glad to hear 🙏
It has been a while since I have done an update on wins. After joining DL back in March I posted shortly thereafter about a large inflow of wins using DL framework. I am pleased to announce that things have continued to go extremely well. Here is a summary of new wins in the past 6 months specifically using the DL framework: -Several new clients signed on for singles, many of them have signed on for additional songs thereafter too -Several new hourly clients -Lots of 1-off jobs, a few mixing jobs, a... My first 2 months with Dark Label was dedicated to getting a few clients which has happened! Super grateful to @Daniel Grimmett and @James Littier for their amazing coaching. I just posted my first piece of content since joining Dark Label which was only possible with the incredible creative guidance from @Chris Georgiou. Please check out my first video and open to any suggestions as I go forward into the content creation universe. https://youtu.be/L4TSlc191B8?si=opWvNJX9bLJi4PEM 2:59

Sep '23Solid vid!
Sep '23This is really good. You could use this as an intro video to your YouTube page as well if you haven’t already
I started using inbound marketing last week. Had a couple inquires from that. Took my time preparing for calls and making sure I was solid in my offer. Fast forward, had two sales calls back to back today. The first one is super excited to work but needs time to raise funds. The other is looking to send over his payment this coming week. I have a call with an outbound lead tomorrow. Just a casual call but we already have a great bond , there’s def trust there as I created a track for her and also made content out of it. Hopefully we can lock something in as well. I’ll keep y’all posted.
Sep '23Thanks for sharing Roméo!
Sep '23Great work man, keep it up! Looking forward to seeing how everything goes with these.
Sep '23Nice one man. Amazing start!
Sep '23Tell us how you “inbound marketed”!
Hi all - one of my clients had his single we co-wrote and I produced/mixed added to Fresh Finds out here in Australia today! Super stoked for him as it was the first of his songs that's been added to a playlist like this. I'm into outreach this week and have been really appreciating the knowledge and advice in the replays, dm's and classroom - THANKS EVERYONE! https://open.spotify.com/track/7KUgDyO9IXEHDBp3yDQ5p0?si=39841e40059f411e

So I entered that remix contest that Seids was running and turns out I actually won! I only spent a few hours on it and definitely didn't expect to win but the top prize was $1000 so I gave it a go. Sep '23@Isaiah English Thanks so much!
Sep '23@Chris Sutherland Nice, thank you!
Sep 'ude let's go! that's awesome news. congratulations for sure
Sep '23@Christian Sancto Thanks!! I think I just knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! 😂 Not often a project is that fast but it was a remix so the vocal was there to follow haha. For actual productions I try and get a melody idea first. I find it so much easier to build around that! Have go to samples ready, can always swap them after. Also have a template for production. Just blank channels where things go etc. Serum loaded, piano loaded, guitar amp loaded. Vocal chain on a channel. Takes away all the setup faff and just delete what you don’t need!
Sep '23Amazing! A few hours?! Workflow tips please 😅
Sep '23@Kensaye Russell Thanks brother!
#wins this is my first win I'm posting on here, very excited haha. I've been networking (both in person and online) for MANY months now trying to break into different scenes around LA, and it's finally starting to pay off. The other day I randomly got a dm from an artist manager that said he "heard I was the guy to work with in LA" for when he and his artist were in town from NY. The singer is a really dope hyperpop artist and is super connected to other bigger artists and managers as well. Real... See more

Just wanted to come here to tell a little story that JUST happened to me yesterday. I met a really good artist last year that studied at Stargate's school in Norway and we immediately bonded. At the time he was already working with another producer and I didn't want to overstep cause i knew the guy. A couple of weeks ago I called to come and write some topelines for another project and showed him some songs i was working and he freaked out at how much he loved the production so he asked me to do...
