    First (3) clients!

Closed my first and third clients this week!! It's honestly been non-stop discomfort ever since I joined this program 4 months ago. Countless failed calls, people scoffing at the fact that I charge for "collaborations", getting ghosted after sending out offers, and countless other stories of shit "going wrong". I came into this program with so many limiting beliefs about how "dope artists don't need or want to pay producers", thinking I was "in the wrong genre" for client work, how nobody in their... First Client!

just signed my first client using the DL method! went through the SSF call, quoted my full price (the base rate we figure out through the economics worksheet), and got the client on the momentum model. doing 3 songs/quarter, starting in July. this is a massive project (150+ songs) and even at this rate is going to be ongoing for the next 12+ years. the client reached out to me (had relationship prior to DL, done a few songs in the past) and said i was the only producer he wanted on this project. ... First outbound client since starting DL

Thought I would share a win: last week I signed my first outbound client at my full rate since starting Dark Label. Nothing crazy, just a single, but significant for me nonetheless. Met this person at an IRL networking event (listening session type thing) where I played one of the songs I worked on for my portfolio, which I got a lot of good feedback and had a few follow-up calls from, which turned into this sale. Pumped for more to come :)

Jan '24Yeah, man! That's awesome! I'm hoping to sign my first client right now, via pure outreach techniques. All the rest of my clients, are usually done through my old ways of getting work - which has kept me busy, but this one is a game changer if you can make it work, as it affords you more predictability. I am still working on mine, had a call with the potential client, and one thing that struck me was that she mentioned my short videos I've been making on Instagram as a point of interest for her.... Music Industry Win

Greetings producer community. I wanted to share a small music industry win today. Just about every week, I try to reach out to a music industry contact in addition to trying to get independent paying clients. I try to connect some logical dots, and make a pitch at someone in the industry to try to get bigger major label placements. I have been doing this for years, and every year or two it works out! When it does, it is a credit you can use forever(Some of my credits are Mos Def, Azealia Banks, ... See more

    3. Stephen Levitin
      Stephen Levitin

Jan '24@Christian Sancto it all depends who the contact is, but in general with independent clients I am taking them through a type of sales funnel with initial messages. With music industry contacts I just go straight for the offer or pitch with my initial message.

    4. Christian Sancto
      Christian Sancto

Jan '24Great idea Stephen, and congratulations on the placement! I'm curious what your initial message to industry people looks like. Is it much different to the initial messages you send to prospective clients? Do you make the pitch in that initial message?

    New Year + New Wins

Super hyped for the new year. Some of my goals this year are to buy a house for me and my wife, continue expanding my brand and social media following, and continue to grow as a producer and engineer. And of course work with more and more new clients. Also just locked in a new project the first day of this year which I'm excited to be starting off strong.

    Got a record deal!

Hey guys! I wanted to celebrate an unconventional win. I got offered a record deal as an artist! Admittedly, that’s why I’ve been a little absent here. been in songwriting mode! They’ve asked me to produce and they’ll pay for a separate mix and master. I actually asked for the mix and master. I personally think it’s too much to do EVERYTHING when you’re that close to it emotionally. I’ll keep producing on my own and part of my long term goal is to work with them as a producer. On Dan’s recommendat... See more

    A nice momentum!

So since joining Dark Label this year I've really been practicing all the knowledge and mindset-stuff here provided first and foremost by @Daniel Grimmett , and echoed by everyone else. It's been a crucial component to expand my way of thinking as it was quite limited with so many years "expecting" things to happen. Nowadays I'm focusing quite a lot on investing in myself where needed and providing value in every project I am in and these last few months I haven't been able to really pop in as mu... Help 👀😂

Hey guys, I just had a video of mine go viral of me covering a song called I won’t complain. I also have a potential segment on the JHUD show. Do you know any gospel or soulful R&B producers that can help me finish some music as an artist? Thanks!

    First momentum win

Just landed a deal with an artist to do 5 singles next year - going to do them for $1k a pop, and have her pay me $500/month for 10 months. Really looking forward to transitioning a few of my existing clients to this type of payment schedule so I can have some more reliable income next year. I think I probably could have charged more, but it was my first time pitching a $5k project to someone so I just wanted to make sure I could land it. You live and learn! Thanks @Daniel Grimmett for introducing me to this type of thing... I think January is gonna be huge!

    YouTube Win

2023 goal was to pass 10k subs.... Just hit 11k. This number doesn't really mean much now-a-days on YouTube BUT this channel is the reason we got to meet most of you here and for that I'm grateful. Thanks as always for watching :)

    2nd Win!

Just before the year is closing out, I landed my second paid project for $1200 for a single with an artist. This was all through inbound networking. He reached out because I’m a music director and play keys at my church and he checked out my Instagram and reached out. It was really easy because he knew me and knew I could provide value. I then then set up a SSF call as next steps and used all the tools and resources for the SSF calls and it was really easy to navigate the convo and have a product... See more

Landed big deal with a Momentum Model client!

Happy Holidays! Recently applied the 3 part offer concepts around building a 'Momentum Model' offer for a client. I knew this client previously and consider them a friend as well, but through the framework managed to close them on a retention plan where we meet every week to write, produce, mix, and work on content / branding. It was for a hefty price each month (for me) and am really excited about the time it's going to unlock for our continued work!

Dec '23@Christian Sancto For sure! So with this client it's a bit unique because we have been friends for some time. That being said, I agreed to have a session with them twice a week where we would very carefully organize our time to be working on either music, or her brand / content. I also would be responsible for one sort of "task" in-between our meetings. No rejections! The price was decided by giving her the option to double my normal retention plan rate for twice as much obligation on my end. She... See more

Dec '23 (edited)Nice Marshall! I'm hoping to get momentum-model clients too going forward, so it's inspiring to see it's working for you 😊 If you're comfortable with it, would you mind saying a bit more about how you sold the momentum model? How did you decide the price? Did you get any objections and how did you handle them? Did you agree to a specific amount of hours each week or month?

    small composition win

had an opportunity to chat with a film director who needed a score for a college thesis and a NYS competition recently and the call went great! i applied much of what Daniel talks about in the videos and the pricing/expectation weren’t even a problem to the client. this is my first purely solo filmscoring job and i’m excited to get started on the project! (my other filmscores involved me working with a team)

    Small but mighty win!

This is my first win since joining Dark Label, super stoked. I've been networking with songwriters, producers, DL members, artists, potential clients etc(both in person and online but mostly in person) in the past 2 months. Trying to build relationships with artists from different scene around LA, went to their shows, connected with their managers and I finally closed a deal for a 3-song project at my new rates. Thanks to DL framework and everyone who helped and gave me suggestions along the way ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
