    Moving To LA!

Hey all, I've been totally gone this last month, missed y'all! Recently I had the opportunity to meet and do some work for bob clearmountain and apogee, as well as meet some really cool people like CLA and TLA (I didn't talk to them, but chris tapped my back so a win is a win), I even got to experience some atmos for the first time! Anyway! After the trip, I decided California is the place to be (who woulda thought?), and so I'm moving up on the 18th and I'll be staying in Orange County (not quite ... See more

Going to be a Dark Dad!

My wife and I are expecting a baby later on this year! We’re extremely excited and feel like the arrival could not come soon enough yet at the same time it still feels a long time away! Any Dads out there got some keen tips for a first time father while still running a business?

Jul '25Congrats! I had my first kid back in November. It's definitely very challenging at first. It took awhile to get into a new routine, but once I figured out what that looked like it made things way easier. The no sleep situation was definitely the hardest part. So just don't be hard on yourself and know that you're probably not going to get as much done for awhile after you have your kid.

Jul '25Congrats Harley!Take enough time off in the beginning. Your family will need you more than your business in the first couple of months. i found it a very creative and inspiring time but i wouldnt try to be overly productive - just save your musical and business ideas for later.Having kids took away time but gave me more drive and motivation for my business after all.Wish you all the best for your new family 💛P.s. check out the “diaper free” method and give it a try 👌 best tip i can givehttps://nestwaerme.li/en/diaper-free

    Previous client win

An artist I worked with pre Dark Label came back for a second song recently. During our catch up call we chatted about my new process (thanks to Dark Label) and she was more than happy to agree to a higher rate $250 above our previous song just a couple months ago. Feels like a step in the right direction of being able to communicate my value 🙂

    Mixing Project at New Rate

Hey all, I just closed on a mixing project at my new hourly rate ($50/hr). The artist bought a beat from me back in 2018 but I followed up with him to get him on the phone and explain my new process of working with full production clients. After a casual call and a sales call the project went from a custom beat to mixing 3 of his records at my full rate. Because of the commute the offer included covering gas to and from the studio as well as post production which includes my mastering engineer($2... See more

    I am now a Co-Owner of StudioBook!

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something cool I’ve been working on. Some of you know I used to get a lot of business from a site called StudioTime, which was basically Airbnb for studios. When it shut down a few years ago, I realized how much I had relied on it to bring in new clients. That’s actually what led me to Dan and Dark Label. I needed to rethink my whole business model. After that, I briefly tried to start my own version of StudioTime, but I realized pretty quickly that I needed to get ... See more

First close with the DLM method!

Celebrating my first time successfully moving an artist through cold DM to casual call to proof session to paid deposit for remote song production via sessionwire. I went from the proof session directly into the sales call. After the session/sales call I sent her an email proposal that she paid upon receiving. Week 7 of 30 outreaches per week. I have 5 more artists who have said “yes” to my proposals but say they need more time to make the first payment. All of them were willing to book follow up ... See more

    Hourly Rate > Guesswork

I’m sharing a different win today. Usually I get remote clients that pay for the full production, this time I got a client reach out via Vampr. He came to my studio for a cool proof session and I just had a ssf call with him. As he is a student, I quickly understood that the budget was pretty much non-existent and that’s usually where other discussions kinda stopped. This time I got to pitch him working on his songs in multiple studio sessions as he’s not living very far, calculated on my hourly... See more

3 Part Offer helped me get a new client today!

I just got through the initial marketing videos. For a consultation this morning I thought it would be fun to try using the 3 part offer. This made the interaction of explaining what I'm offering as a 'producer' (apart from an 'engineer') so much smoother than any other consultation I've had up until this point. Now we have a songwriting session locked in and most likely a full production in the near future! Thanks Dark Label!

    First $5K month!

May was officially my first month cracking $5K, almost exclusively from productions (and closer to $6K actually in the end). Even though it's just a number, it feels like a really solid milestone since it was my short-term income goal when I joined Dark Label. I was only bringing in ~$2K/mo around then just 6 months ago. What makes me more excited though is I haven't had a Youtube video do crazy numbers since then, or signed a big album project that would give my income a temporary spike. This ha... See more

    $6K EP Project

Hey everyone, Yesterday I closed another big project this year. It’s going to be a bossa nova/rock album that I’m super excited about. What helped me close was pitching the momentum model and taking monthly payments instead of taking payments phase by phase. Big thanks to everyone here and attending the live stream has definitely help. Cheers.

    Win !

Happy to share that I just got confirmation to work on a new song with an artist I connect with musically, at a good rate and with the project of keeping it moving to make a 10 song album over the next 12-18 months. We had great chemistry during the casual call and proof session, directly moved into the SSF framework and got the first payment a few days later 🙌🏻 It’s always in the moments I feel stuck in my outreach that stuff just kind of happens, got 4 calls booked last week and great convers... Two more wins today

Today I had two calls back to back, and it rly showed me how much progress I’ve made in my business since I started off a few years ago. And I can’t lie it feels like a lot of things that were disorganized and I used to struggle with have clicked into place since joining darklabel about a month or so ago. The first call was actually the first client I ever booked from outreach, almost two years ago. Back then my only experience with dark label was from Daniel’s early YouTube videos. Since then I’... May '25Something I didn’t mention is two days before this post was a rough day,I had a bad client who commissioned a project then showed up to the session like “dope let’s get to work” they have kinda off energy sometimes so I didn’t trip abt it, but at the end of the session they refused to pay. “I’m sorry I just rly don’t even have it in my account, I’m overdrawn, etc”lol then why did you show up to the session we agreed on a rate for and waste my time working for 4 hours?? Just tell me straight up b... See more

Closed $7k worth of Projects in 2 Days!

I just got back from a little holiday, and I closed $7k worth of projects in 2 days. 1 project through my network, 1 through outreach, and 3 from YouTube! I still have another project from a returning client I should close on Monday, so maybe $8K! The beginning of the year wasn't the easiest due to some not-so-great decision-making (I learned some business lessons the hard way), so that feels good!

    Aha moment 💡 sales win

Had a huge realization yesterday during a call with Dan We were digging into why I wasn’t closing as many sales as I’d like and long story short — we found out I was skipping over the 3 part offer (Prescribe the solution) So today, I had a sales call with someone looking to get a song mixed and this time, I made sure to go through the full framework, especially emphasizing the 3-part offer Closed the deal, collected a deposit, and wasn’t even met with any pushback on the price Just wanted to share this in case anyone else might be missing a vital step in their calls

May '25@Denys Rybchenko Hey Denys, thanks! In this case, the artist sent me their mix and was asking for my feedback. They felt they were missing some energy in the drums and struggling to get clarity overall. So I took a listen and gave him my analysis. Their vocals were boomy, a little behind the instruments, and their drums were lacking in lows / missing punch ... After he sent me the session and I audited the tracks, I realized he had *16* drum loops (full kits, not separated tracks) all layered on... See more

May '25Congratulations, Nathan! This is awesome! I'm just curious though, if you don't mind sharing, what were the issues the artist was facing with and what kind of solutions you offered?Because for me SSF works quite well for production services but when it comes to mixing, usually it's quite straightforward, people need mixing and that's it and it gets more difficult to justify the price. So, I'm just wondering what kind of solutions you were prescribing apart from the actual mixing?

    Sharing a win

I've definitely been in the early stages of my Dark Label journey for a little while, but an artist I work with liked their first EP so much that they've booked me for an album two songs at a time for the coming three months. Still at lower prices since my business is in the early stages, but good work led to steady work and steady work leads to steady engagement. All thanks to what I'm learning from the community here. Thanks everybody!
